Living with Artificial Intelligence: The Potential of AI for the Future
Jorge Tavares, Microsoft
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made remarkable progress in creating tools and products that can perform or enhance many human tasks across different fields. But these also bring about changes and possibilities for society and the future of work. How can we cope and thrive with these changes? This talk introduces AI, its similarities and differences with past technological innovations, its potential and implications, and how we can best prepare for it
Jorge Tavares is a Principal Researcher at Microsoft as part of the M365 Research Team, working on efficient AI where he optimizes and scales deep neural networks for online inference for multiple M365 products. Previously, he worked for core relevance in Bing, as well as on conversational assistants’ platforms and Cortana. Before joining Microsoft, he was an academic researcher on automatic design of algorithms by means of evolutionary computation at CISUC, Portugal. He was a postdoc at MIT in the US, working on intelligent transportation systems, and before at INRIA France, working on the molecular docking problem. He holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence with a focus on evolutionary methods for optimization.
